Huaxin Carbide Small Tungsten Carbide Knives for Shrimp Processing

On a processing line in Henan Province, a shrimp passes under a small spinning disc and comes out with a clean, shallow cut along its back. The whole thing takes a fraction of a second. That cut is the first step in deveining, and the blade making it is a 30 mm tungsten carbide round knife from Huaxin Carbide.

blade for Shrimp Splitting Machine

A Henan-based maker of intelligent shrimp-cutting machines has recently chosen our small round tungsten carbide blades for its self-designed equipment. The blades are mounted on the machine to slit open the shrimp’s back, so that the vein can be removed and the shrimp washed in the stages that follow. For a machine builder, that opening cut sets the pace and the quality of everything downstream, which is why the choice of blade mattered.

Cutting shrimp all day means constant contact with water, salt and protein residue. Ordinary steel blades are not built for that environment.

That is where tungsten carbide earns its place. Compared with conventional steel knives, our carbide round blades hold up better against corrosion and wear, and they keep pace with the cutting speeds that industrial shrimp processing demands. The result is a blade that suits continuous, mechanized production far better than a steel edge that needs frequent attention.

Shrimp Processing Machine Blade

Blade at a glance
Product Small round tungsten carbide blade
Size 30 × 6 × 0.63 mm
Application Slitting the shrimp’s back before deveining and washing
Compared with steel blades Better corrosion resistance, better wear resistance, suited to high cutting speed
Customization Sizes can be adapted to the shrimp species being processed

Shrimp are not a uniform raw material. Body size and shell thickness differ from one species to the next, and so do the cutting requirements. Because our blade dimensions can be customized, the same approach works across the varieties processed in different regions, including:

South American white shrimp
Black tiger shrimp
Argentine red shrimp
Giant freshwater prawn

For equipment makers, this opens a practical route to mechanizing shrimp handling. A carbide blade sized to the target species can be built into the machine from the start, rather than adapted later. For processors, it means a cutting component that is meant to last in a wet, corrosive working environment.

Food processing is a newer field for our carbide knives, which have long served industrial slitting and cutting jobs. The shrimp-cutting machine shows how the same material strengths, hardness and wear resistance, carry over to a very different production line.

Why use tungsten carbide instead of steel for shrimp cutting?

In this application, the carbide blade offers better corrosion resistance and wear resistance than steel knives, and it is better suited to the cutting speed of industrial shrimp processing.

Can the blade size be customized for different shrimp?

Yes. The 30 × 6 × 0.63 mm blade can be tailored to the species you process, including South American white shrimp, black tiger shrimp, Argentine red shrimp and giant freshwater prawn.

What is the blade used for on the machine?

It cuts open the shrimp’s back so the vein can be removed and the shrimp cleaned in the next steps.
